We have been sharing the process of creating our newest album with a group of grade fives at our elementary school in town. Each day we have come in and showed them pictures of what it looked like in the studio, played them clips of music - first instruments only, then with voice and then "overdubs" (other instrumentation) - showed them the initial cover art photos, and now the finished product. They have become musically literate about recorded music and we have been blessed by their company on the way.

One day, when we had received a proposed mix of a song back from our far-away producer, Paul (via the internet on MP3...), I thought I'd talk about the actual meaning of a song with the group. I asked them what their grown-ups suggested they do when they had lost something, or when they had something really important to decide. They answered: Go to the last place you had it, Look systematically through the house, Forget it; go buy another, Ask an expert, Look it up on the internet...

I told them that, although every one of those pieces of advice was good, this song that they were about to hear said the opposite of every one of them. It is the song "Patience", from the words of Rainer Maria Rilke, arranged into song by me.

In reflecting on Jim's words for this Sunday, I thought I would provide you with the MP3 of the song. As Jim says, conversions happen in many different ways, some of them great bolts of realisation in the middle of the street and some of them only gently realised after years of "living into the question". I praise God for the possibilities of both.

Our new album is called "Momentary Saints" and it is available now. Visit our web site to listen to more.
